Why you need a Planned Giving Program,
Marketing your Planned Giving to your Donors
Michael Donegan, VP of Development, American Lung Association of Colorado
Wednesday, April 5, 2006
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
American Red Cross Building
444 Sherman Street, Denver

Program Description
Michael's goal in this session has 2 areas of focus: First, to give you the reasons why you can no longer afford to not have a PG program in your overall development efforts based on his dozens of presentations to non-profits professionals and hundreds of converts from those presentations. Second, he will provide an understanding of why marketing, both internal and external, is so important to the success of a PG program. He will arm you with information and tangible examples of great marketing techniques that you can take home with you and try out in your own non-profit!!! (As they say in the game show world, your "parting gifts" as you leave).

Michael Donegan is currently the VP of Development for the American Lung Association of Colorado, overseeing the change from a direct mail, special event fundraising culture to one that is donor-centered and focused on personal fundraising and strong stewardship.

He was in the planned giving field for 14 years, starting in 1990 working at National Jewish Center in Denver for Jeff Comfort, now Director of Planned Giving at Georgetown. He went on to start a PG program at the American Cancer Society in Colorado in 1994 and also started a PG program at the Denver Zoo in 1996. He left the Denver Zoo in January 2002 to work as Associate Director, Planned Giving, Western Region for the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Michael is a recent past National Committee of Planned Giving Board member, Past Chair of the NCPG Research committee, former National Leave a Legacy committee member, past President of the Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable and past chair of the Colorado Leave a Legacy® campaign.

Michael has spoken to dozens of Boards and hundreds of charities on the subject of planned giving and endowment building over the last 10 years. He feels compelled to help local charities understand the need to create endowments for their institutions to help ensure that their mission continues for future generations.

Brown Bags are free to members. There is a $10 fee to non-members.
