Program Description
Effective planned gift fundraising can be viewed as having three stages – promotion and cultivation, active solicitation, and donor stewardship. This session will feature a fresh, engaging conversation to help identify and explore the ethical issues that can arise at each stage.

William Albrecht is a Senior Consultant at Pathways Non-Profit Solutions, a firm specializing in Major and Planned Gift consulting. He has spent the past 18 years in the nonprofit community, serving previously as Director of Planned Giving at Regis University. Prior to that, Bill worked in planned and major gifts at The Children’s Hospital Foundation and National Jewish Hospital. In 1997, he became a Certified Financial Planner®, choosing this path to best position philanthropy within a donor’s overall financial plan. He is also a graduate from Indiana University, holding a B.S. in Finance.

Bill has served on numerous non-profit boards and committees, including six years on the board of Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable, chairing its Resource Center, Marketing and Leave A Legacy ™ Committees. Bill has presented on numerous occasions, including CPGR’s Summer Symposium and at the Jesuit Advancement Association’s national conference, and at programs for the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Colorado Chapter, Community Resource Center, Metro Volunteers, CPGR’s Brown Bag Luncheon programs, and to various boards of non-profit organizations.

Scott R. Lumpkin is associate vice chancellor for university advancement at the University of Denver where he directs the university’s gift planning program and provides senior-level leadership within the Office of University Advancement. He is a past board member of the National Committee on Planned Giving as well as a founding member and Past President of the Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable. Scott has directed national research projects focused on planned giving including NCPG’s landmark nationwide demographic survey of donors: Planned Giving in the United States. He speaks and writes regularly about gift planning and charitable tax and estate planning techniques. Most recently he served on the task force that developed NCPG’s Valuation Standards for Planned Gifts and also helped develop NCPG’s recently proposed Guidelines for Counting and Reporting Planned Gifts. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver.
