How to create a new web page
Once you are logged into the site, click on the "Create a New Web Page" link in the "Site Tools" Toolbar.
The "Submit Page" window will open. The first thing you will need to do is create a title for your page (1). By default, the area in which you will compose your page will have several formatting options available. Use these to format your text. As you mouse over each item, text will pop up to tell you what each tool does (2). The dropdown Format menu (3) will allow to highlight a selection in the body of your text (4) and apply a format to it.
If you want to disable the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor described in the above step, slect the "disable rich-text" link (5).
To ensure that your page has the same formatting you applied in the WYSIWYG editor, click the "Input format" link (arrow) and make sure "default" is selected (6). If you chose not to use the WYSIWYG editor, select the "Full HTML" option.
After you have edited your content and chosen the formatting, you may want to add a Log Message. This is a simple note to yourself or future editors of a page about future plans, background info or logs of changes as they occur. Use of the Log Message is optional.
You can decide who has access to the page you are creating. If it's a site you want wnyone visiting your site to see, you don't have to do anything. You may decide that it's a page you only want certain people to view (like this very page). In this case, click the "access" link (arrow) and select the groups of people you would like to view the page. This list will change depending on the groups you have set up in your site. Usually, there will be three groups - Anonymous (everyone who might visit the site), content author (someone with the rights to create and edit pages) and site admin (someone with the rights to change every aspect of your site - this is given to experts only).
You may want to alter the information about the page's creation date. If so, click the "Authoring Information" link (arrow) to show the options for doing so.
If you are creating a page that will be immediately published on your site, you will not need to make any changes to the Publishing Options. If you intend to create a page that will be reviewed before final publication, or if you are publing a revision of an existing page, you will want to click on the "Publishing Options" link (arrow) to display the options.
If you decide that you would like to add the new web page to your menu, click the "Menu settings" link. The text you enter into the "Title" field will appear in the menu itself. Text you enter into the "Description" field will appear when you mouse over the link in the menu. This does not work in all browsers, however, so I consider this field optional.
The next few parts of the Menu settings area require a little explanation, To decide where you want the page to reside in your navigation, click the little arrow in the "Parent item" box (arrow). Scroll down until you find the spot in the menu under which you would like the page to reside.
"Weight," the field below the "Parent item" box, decides the order of your page in the menu structure. For example, let's say you put your page in the "About Us" section of your site. You may have several pages in this section. If you want the page to come before any other pages in the "About Us" section, you would choose "-10." This will place the page at the top of the list.
You probably will not want comments enabled on a page of your site. This is something more appropriate for blog posts. The default for your site is to have comments turned off for pages. If you decide you'd like people to leave comments on your web page, click the "Comment settings" link (arrow) and select the option of your choice.
If you would like to preview your page, click the "Preview" button. If you like what you see, click the "Submit" button.
That's it! You've just created a new page.
